Particular Help needed regarding KIRKCOWAN PIPE BAND - see below

I am in contact with a distant McKie relative who used to live in Kirkcowan and has in his possession a pair of bagpipes previously owned by my grandfather Samuel Stewart., His grandson is apparently keen to learn to play.

My grandfather Samuel Stewart started up a Pipe Band in the village of Kirkcowan when he lived at West Crosherie. I am trying to find out more details about this eg when was it set up, who played in the band, did they enter and/or win any competitions etc. I know that my grandfather was the Pipe Major and also played solo sometimes for the Betty Forrest Dancers based in Newton Stewart (at the Galloway Pageant held annually in August for example) but have scant information about anything else.
